“You destroyed the magic Juju”

We’ve all been through the phase where we say, “I’m on a diet”. Let me tell you this now: dieting sucks when you don’t know how to do it right! When I didn’t know the proper way on dieting, I felt like a piranha was eating it’s way through my belly! I later learned that the best way to diet was to constantly eat but in smaller portions. Before I started eating healthy though, I wanted to clear my body of all the burgers, burritos, alcohol and sweets in my body. I took a big step and went with a detox. I decided to try out Juju Cleanse because a lot of people I knew had tried it out. I was a very brave kid and ordered the 3-day level 1 detox.

I got my bag and it was pretty cute because the juices came in a bag with an ice pack. Everything was smooth sailing until I had to go to an event I hosted in Shangri-la Makati. They told me I could order anything. So I did. Not. I wish. I just got spring rolls and smoked salmon. And yes I knooooooow I’m not supposed to be eating on a detox but I couldn’t help it! I was in Shang with yummy food right in front of me! Okay, enough of excuses. My first day of my detox didn’t go so well because of that.

I made sure that I would religiously follow my detox for day two and three. My prayers were answered. Or rather, I was just abiding by the rules of thy detox. It was easier for me to do it since I was just at home.

What I hated most about it was that I couldn’t work out. It said in Juju Cleanse’s FAQ that a light workout like yoga would do but I was afraid that I wouldn’t feel well after doing that so I just decided to bum and play games all day. That actually helped because I wouldn’t fell that I was hungry. I just kept downing that juice like anything. Of course, I did like some of them and others were just… BLEH. Yucky. I felt like I wanted to throw a bottle at the wall because I just couldn’t take it (violent much?!). It was either really that bad or my taste buds just weren’t used to the flavor.

spicylemon

Spicy Limonada – This was probably the best one. If you guys know the Master Cleanse, this is that in one bottle. I didn’t have a hard time gulping this drink down.

redgiant

Red Giant – I hated this drink!!! To the bones!!! At first it was bearable but then there was just something in it that made me want to scoop it out of my belly HUHU

greenbomb

Green Bomb – Just so you all know, I’m a GULAY GIRL. I love my veggies. I can eat veggies all day everyday. I eat veggie burgers, pizza, you name it! That’s probably why I didn’t have a hard time drinking this. I loved that it was the first drink of the day too.

Right after my 3rd day cleanse, I ate at recovery food. HAHAHAH! I didn’t eat like a monster because I didn’t want to bloat so I just had the bangus dish, without the rice of course. Well, maybe I did sneak in a couple spoonfuls of rice. 😉

It was an experience doing this detox but I don’t think I could do another 3 days of it. I think one day of the detox would’ve been better for me. On the plus side, I have a lot of cool bottles that I could still use too! Haha!

I promised myself that this year, I would stay fit. One way for me to do so was to keep track of my exercises so that I would be able to see my progress. Losing weight is only one part the most people know about being fit. What a lot of us don’t realize is that there is so much to learn about being healthy. One thing that keeps us fit is: GOALS. We all need goals so that we know how to push ourselves to be better. I decided to get a couple of applications for my iPhone so that it would be easier for me to track things down.

Since I’ve been pushing myself to start running, I got this app called Run Keeper. It keeps track of all my running. What’s cool about it is that it uses GPS so that it can track down where you run with a map. I’ve used it for the last two fun runs I did. I love that it has different stats so that I can compare how I did and what improvements I’ve made (if I made any at all).

You start off by inputing data like if you’re gonna track your run as of the moment using GPS or manually like when you use a treadmill. I love the GPS feature because it records the path you take while running. I also love that it notes down your pace so that you can tell how fast or slow you’re going per kilometer. Music can be played in the background but beware of THE VOICE!!! Dun-dun-dun. She’ll tell you if you’re going 11 minutes/km hahaha! That means pick up your pace a bit you granny! Oh, and mind you…

tumblr_me0erk26Ju1rhcszdo1_500This should be your motivation. Yep. He’s beating you. And you’re just a flopping fish.

GOING BACK….

Here’s my progress from the first two runs I did. They were both 5k runs. I’m not entirely sure about the statistic of my second run but it was probably because the finish like was in a weird place (excuses).

BULL RUN 2013

PHIL HEALTH RUN 2013

I think I did better on my second run. I wasn’t as tired as I was during the Bull Run but I think I pushed more during the Phil Health Run. I went 15 minutes straight without stopping which is a HUGE improvement for me. I’m pretty happy with my accomplishment but I know I gotta work it like anything! Til the next fun run!

We all reach a point in our lives when all we want to do is go out, party and just drink the night away. Of course there will be times that after all the fun, it’s either we pass out, start slurring our words, get into a fight or everything we drank/ate wants to say hello again and exits our body through our mouths (tried to make it sound better but failed). Either way, by the end of the night we just end up MAD hungry. I remember one time after a night out I had a burger, nuggets, fries, a sundae, a large soda and an apple pie. I had a little food baby going on but I didn’t mind. As long as I had food, I was good. Even if I was emotionally (or drunkenly) compensated for that matter, what I ate wasn’t at all healthy. I felt like I had consumed a weeks worth of my allotted calorie intake!

Nowadays, I don’t go out. If ever I do, it’ll just be for a night out to scavenge for dessert or just something simple like coffee. Now, don’t go on calling me a lola just yet! Instead of partying, like I said, I wanted to make my 2013 healthier. After the fun run my friends and I did, we got crazy hungry. I don’t even remember being that hungry before. All I knew was, I wanted to stuff some rice in my belly! My friend recommended this place called Recovery Food in Fort Bonifacio. Apparently this place is open 24/7 catering to party-goers during the wee hours of the morning and those who just want yummy food all day long.

On the menu they offered a half recovery bowl and a full recovery bowl (which is of course for the I-wanna-eat-a-cow kind of hungry people). I loved that they offered brown rice because I try to stay away from white rice as much as possible. If you’re really in for a treat, you can ask for talangka rice for just an additional P35.

I decided to get Hey Jude’s Paksig because I just LOVE bangus. My mouth is watering right now because I can remember the spicy vinegar that I would dip it in to make it even better (they also have regular vinegar). I only got a half recovery bowl but I down that son of a rice bowl in a snap. It was just that good! My friends tried out the tapa and adobo rice bowls and they said they were equally as good. My friend said the tapa was just okay and liked the Happy Beef Rice better. I think next time I’m going to try out the Sweet & Spicy Tuyo rice bowl. The mere thought of it makes me want to rush over there right now.

I’m really happy that I found a restaurant that serves brown rice. It’s rare that you can find a place that does. If ever I need a rice fix and I’m out, I know where to go.

Ever had that one class where they bug you to write about your Christmas vacation? I remember when our teacher would ask us to write a short story about the holidays and along with that, our resolution for the new year. A lot of people have goals and and lot of those goals don’t push through. I’ve had my fair share of those unfulfilled resolutions as well. This year though, I wanted it to be different. I wanted this year to be kick ass! I put a list of all the things I wanted to do for the year but the number one thing that I wanted to focus on was: FITNESS.

Here’s one thing that people don’t know about me: I eat like a monster! Food is my hobby. The downside to that though is that I’m not eating healthy. If you eat like a monster, I guess you’re going to end up looking like one too. Here’s when Tabitha the talking tummy and Sally cellulite start become you’re best friends. They are the mean girls here. Believe me. Stay away from their minions Freddie fast food!

5K here we go!

So to start my path to being fit, I decided to join a fun run last January called the 2013 Bull Run. I was invited by Mars Callo who is just amazing! She runs a mean 21K and can even fight for a 42K run! How cool is that?! I have only been to two fun runs and on both occasions, I ran 3K. You could just imagine my face when I found out I was signed up for 5K. I didn’t think I could do it. I was sooooo scared, mainly because I don’t really run a lot and I was afraid of what could happen.

Mars and I

During my first lap I was breezing past the other runners. During my second lap those runners were passing by ME! I kind of thought of it like a pie eating contest where you don’t rush into eating all the pies but if you eat them gracefully then you shall end gracefully. I wasn’t anywhere near graceful. I was staggering and trying to keeps up with my friends. I would catch up with them and then slowly fall behind. My “abs” (better known as flabs) would ache from time to time so that really slowed me down. My friend Mars told me to just raise my arms up and shout. Give me a “HA”. I think I gave more of a HA-HA-HA though!

I could finally see the finish line. I could hear Forest Gump shouting in my ear, “Run, Megan, Run”. And run I did. I ran for my life. I was all smiles and so were the other runners whether they ran 3K, 5K, 10K or 21K. It felt so good to finish that 5K run. I may have had a bit of a hard time but I’m glad I pushed myself. Sometimes you really need to push yourself out of your comfort zone to get better. That’s why this year, I’m pushing it all the way to healthy. Oh yeah.
